GADC History

GADC (Greenwich Adult Day Care), originally called The Witherell Pavilion Club, opened in 1977 in response to a United Way and Commission on Aging study which suggested the need for a community program for seniors too frail to participate in the activities at the Greenwich Senior Center.  In 1984, GADC collaborated with ARC, the Red Cross and the Senior Center in the formation of the Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG).  TAG provides for the specialized needs of GADC members through the operation of wheelchair accessible vans with driver escorts.

In January of 2003, after looking at many buildings throughout Greenwich, the GADC Board of Directors decided to move from Nathaniel Witherell to our own freestanding facility.  It was decided that the 1927 Pump House on the Mianus River would be the perfect place for an adult day center.  The renovation of the Pump House began in March 2006 and GADC River House opened for business July 1, 2008.

GADC River House is one of the largest adult day care "medical model" providers in Connecticut with a capacity of 75 members/day.
