Acute Care of the Elderly at Greenwich Hospital

In July 2004 Greenwich Hospital selected GADC as its provider of therapeutic recreation in the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Unit.  The ACE Unit offers an interdisciplinary approach to help older adults maintain their independence and prevent physical and mental decline while receiving treatment for acute illnesses.

GADC recreation activities and therapy:

  • Maintain or improve the patient’s mental and social function
  • Encourage patients to participate and interact with others in the activity lounge or at bedside.

“In our assessment program at the Center for Healthy Aging at Greenwich Hospital we see many frail, older patients with dementia and functional problems. We often recommended day care for them. We explain to families that day care can be part of a plan to keep a frail or confused older person safe and occupied during the day, so caregivers can work or attend to shopping or other activities.

Greenwich Adult Day Care provides and excellent program of supervision and care. The feedback from those who attend GADC has been extremely positive. Families report that their loved one receives close personal attention, and that they feel secure leaving their relative at the Center. Patients often report that they enjoy the atmosphere and that the programs are fun and entertaining. We recommend the program very highly.”
